Rainer Schraders research interests are structural and algorithmic aspects of discrete optimization problems as well as applications in various fields. His theoretical work covers the development of efficient algorithms for problems in graph theoy, order theory and in combinatorial optimization, investigations in computational complexity and approximation algorithms. His applied work was mostly done in cooperation with industrial partners. It includes the development of forecast and control models for home loan banks, various aspects of bioinformatics and solvers for airline and railroad scheduling problems, crew scheduling problems and traffic flows.
